Christmas Gift Ideas for Writers

I may earn commission from the companies mentioned in this post at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products that I have tried and love.

Christmas is a wonderful time, all the food, family, friends and fun in one glorious month. We set our tree up on the 1st of December every year, and then our daughter drives us crazy until the 25th when she can finally open her presents. If you have a writer in your life or even a blogger, you may be stumped for ideas on what to buy them this year. I have made a list of great Christmas gifts for the writers in your life.

A Beautiful Notebook

I know a lot of people use apps for their notes, but I am one of the few who loves a beautiful leather bound journal to keep all my notes and thoughts together.  Although I am not quite into bullet journaling, I like to write and doodle while I work. I jot down blog post ideas, shopping lists, thoughts and inspirations. Another thing I love is to go back through my journal by the end of the year and just reading all my notes and scribblings. I prefer A4 size because it gives you lots of room to write. This past year I used the John C Maxwell daily planner, which is a beautiful tan colour. I also have the Thick Classic Notebook from Amazon, which is excellent value for money.

A Comfortable Pen Set

I know we don’t do most of our writing, whether it is freelancing or blogging, with pens anymore, but I like a good pen. I use the Stabilo Fine Liner set for when I feel like being creative, but for everyday scribbling, I use anything I have lying around. If the person you are buying for is into bullet journalling, which is so popular at the moment, a good quality fine tip pen set is the perfect gift.

A Grammarly subscription

A what? Your writer friend or relative is probably already using the free version, so why not upgrade them to the premium package? Any writer will tell you that Grammarly has probably changed the way they write. It gives wonderful insights every week on how many words you have written and other stats that non-writers might find boring. It is a wonderful app that I use all the time.

Godaddy hosting

If they are serious about writing or blogging then they need to be self-hosted. I have used Godaddy for a few months and I have been very happy with the support they provide. Give them the gift of a proper self-hosted website where they own all the content.

A gift card to a local coffee shop

This is self-explanatory. I love coffee and I love to write at a coffee shop. I am sure the writer in your life would really appreciate this gift.

Upgrade them to Canva Work

A lot of us use Canva for our designs, it is easy to use and there are thousands of images and photos to choose from. I create my Pinterest images, facebook cover images and many other designs, even birthday cards on there. Buying a blogger the upgrade would be an awesome gift.

House of Brazen e-course on how to make your first affiliate sale

If they are new to blogging to wanting to learn more about affiliate sales, buy them this course. I wrote a long review of the course in this post. I learnt a lot from this course, from writing the content to the marketing aspect of affiliate sales. Very helpful and informative with great support.

Contena Membership

If the writer in your life is a freelance writer, buying them a paid membership to a freelance job board or site is a wonderful gift. Most of us are too scared to invest in a paid membership if we are not sure if there will be any return on investment. And as they will get lots of helpful training and paid gigs, this is a gift that keeps on giving. Membership is very limited and only open for short periods at a time, so keep an eye out if you think this would be a good gift.

Kindle

Writers need to constantly keep up with what is happening in the world of literature. Whether you are reading fiction, self-help or handbooks, reading enriches your writing. A kindle is a great gift for anyone really, because it is neat and slim, and all your books are stored in one place. There will be great deals on Kindle in the coming weeks with Black Friday and Cyber Monday coming up as well as the festive sales.

A New Laptop

If you are feeling very generous, a writer’s primary tool these days is their laptop or PC. Give the ultimate gift by upgrading their current laptop. There will again be crazy deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

These are a few things I thought of after someone asked me what I would like for Christmas. I am sure there are hundreds more and I am sure to do a follow-up post on this soon. There are also loads of books, which I will write about in a separate post soon. Leave your thoughts in the comments 🙂
